(DAYTONA BEACH) -- Jerrime "Squatty" Bell has been named as the new Head Coach of Daytona Beach Mainland. Bell follows in the huge footsteps left by his first cousin, Travis Roland, who guided Mainland to back-to-back state final appearances, capturing the 2023 Class 3S State Championships last season!

Bell previously was Head Coach of the 2023 District Champs Atlantic Sharks. In a short span of a few years, he led his Sharks to a District Championship and playoff berth.

Before head coach at Atlantic, Bell served seven years as the defensive line coach at Treasure Coast HS. He also served as the head coach of the Titans' women's flag football team.

Bell also was an offensive coordinator at Calvary Christian in Ormond Beach.


Mainland is FaMily
Squatty is part of one of the first families of Daytona Beach football history. Jerrime's older brothers, Jerry and Rod, both wore the royal blue and gold on the gridiron in the 1990's.

Bell's older cousin is Antwuan Wyatt, arguably the best offensive and versatile weapon the Bucs have seen, garnishing 1992 Class 5A 1st Team All-State honors as RB, rushing for an eye-popping 1,231 yards (12.6ypc) on only 98 carries.

Antwuan's younger brother Marquis Walden shined for the Bucs during the 1997 season returning six kicks for TDS and rushing 7 yards short of 1,000.

Squatty is a Class of 2022 alum and played three years for the Bucs, continuing the family legacy of shining for the Bucs.

And then there's arguably the best player to ever don the Blue and Gold, Travis Roland. The Don of Mainland football. You see Travis led Mainland to the promised land, as a star defensive player anchoring a team that went __ under Head Coach John Maronto to beat the Naples Golden Eagles 24-13 winning the 2003 Class 5A State Championship.

This upcoming season will be a difficult task to repeat as state champions. With the FHSAA reorganizing classifications back to the original structure of base classes (as opposed to previous seasons with Metro and Suburban classes), the Bucs will have to face and beat Florida's all-time state champion record holder 15x state champion St. Thomas Aquinas, who has won 5-straight state titles.

Mainland has cemented itself as an annual Central Florida powerhouse, and has been elevated due to back to back state final appearances. The Defending State Champs will be on a conquest to show the state.

Mainland opens the season at Eau Gallie.
