Bill Spoone Stadium
also known as Bill Spoone Stadium
Stadium Info
Bill Spoone Stadium was named after William C. Spoone, the first Principal of Dr. Phillips High School. Mr. Spoone opened the school to much fanfare and publicity in 1987 and led DPHS through 1992. A graduate and staunch supporter of the University of Tennessee, Spoone played football under the legendary General Neyland and is a former President of the Dr. Phillips Rotary. During his tenure at DP, Mr. Spoone was one of the primary reasons the school became an athletic powerhouse almost immediately after its doors were opened. He believed in weekly pep rallies, student support at every event and raised school spirit to a remarkable level.
Bill Spoone Stadium seats 6,600 people and its field is maintained by Mark Seelig, one of the top groundskeepers in Central Florida. The press box is named after the school\'s first public address announcer, Mike Murray. Mr. Murray was a fixture at Dr. Phillips Football and Men\'s Basketball games for 23 years and will always be known as the \"Voice of the Panthers.\"
