At 1pm today, the Buccaneers 2009 season will officially begin. There are a lot of questions in the post-Chucky era, none more compelling than what kind of production will Cadillac Williams have this season? The Bucs are definitely shifting their offense to a more grounded attack, as evidenced by the three headed monster they will employ with Derrick Ward joining the fray alongside Earnest Graham and Williams.
Williams is the starter du jour, but will probably not get more than 20 carries a game. This means that there will be plenty of touches for Graham and Ward, too, but also this will provide rest to the running back corp as they prepare for a long, grueling season. The Bucs have depth now as well and in this division, nothing is more crucial than being able to run the ball. As far as fantasy impact, Williams will probably do all the running until they get into the red zone, where they may switch him out for a shifty back in Ward or force the ball up the middle with Graham. Today’s game against the Cowboys should tell us a lot more about what kind of game plan the Bucs will follow.
