Miami Dolphins sign running back Larry Johnson – Miami Dolphins – MiamiHerald.com

When practice started Tuesday, Dolphins running back Kory Sheets was no longer around, having relinquished his No. 23 jersey after the team’s decision to release him. In a matter of minutes, that very jersey was back in use.

And although former Pro Bowl running back Larry Johnson is now wearing it — signed to a one-year, low-risk contract — the Dolphins were careful about separating Johnson’s well-known past from his place as just a guy in that Miami jersey.

“As I told Larry, I’m not asking him to be anything more than he is right now,” coach Tony Sparano said Tuesday. “I’m not asking him to be the man. I just want him to come in and be a piece on this football team.

“That’s it.”

Cutting To 53!

Sparano has been cutting away to get down to that magic number 53. He’s managed to obstain from cutting outside linebacker Matt Roth by putting him on the reserve/non-football injury list. This means that Roth will be not be elgible to pratcice or play for at least six weeks. This reserve/ non-football injury list means Roth has been injured somehow but off the field, not in practice or game, and off Sparano’s clock. However, the players that were cut by Head Coach Tony Sparano were safety Courtney Bryan, offensive tackle Brandon Frye, linebacker William Kershaw, wide receiver Brandon London, cornerback Joey Thomas, defensive end Rodrique Wright, offensive lineman Nate Garner, cornerback Will Billingsley, defensive lineman Ryan Baker, offensive guard/center Mark Lewis, linebacker J.D. Folsom, wide receiver James Robinson and like previously noted outside linebacker Matt Roth.

Sparano says of cutting his team that ”It’s a very tough day, it really is,” “It’s a tough day when you have somebody that has worked as hard as these players have worked and you have to tell him that he can’t be part of what you’re doing and there’s a lot of sensitivity there. So I certainly appreciate everything that they’ve done for us and just wish them luck, so it’s a hard deal.” Yeah I suppose it’s hard for all players and coaches involved to watch someone be cut and possibly not be back on the field. However, changes to the roster have been made before, but I wouldn’t hold my breath on that chance. Good luck guys!

Must Have Been G.I. Joe (10-7 Victory)

I was amazed at how far Sparano has taken this Dolphin squad. I guess watching G.I. Joe did help!

I loved the fact that our 2nd year QB Henne made some awesome connections and great completions in the second quarter; he redeemed himself from last weeks Buc’s. He was smooth and his timing was dead on; it was almost perfect! He completed all 7 passes and threw a solid 23 yarder to Tedd Ginn Jr. (Both he and Pennington made safe plays and had no interceptions yesterday.)

Many of our Dolphins had some amazing catches and one heck of an interception; Sean Smith! Camarillo caught a nice pass from Pennington early in the game that resulted in a 17 yard gain. Then a few plays later Bess made a diving catch for 7. I have to say my fav’s from the game was watching Hilliard, though not getting much recognition, had one heck of a game and seemed to be everywhere on the Superdome’s field, while Cobbs got clobbered in one particular play that went no where; good effort, and Smith grabbing that touchback was jaw dropping lucky and awesome all rolled into one. However, watching Pat White take over in the fourth with about 12 minutes left at the Saints 3 yard line made me cringe. I wanted to shut the television off when we got pushed 1/2 the distance to the goal at the 1.5 yard and he was 3 yards deep in the Saints endzone. That was hard to watch considering nothing he handed off or threw went anywhere. I know it’ll take time for him to adjust like it’ s taken Henne time, but hopefully the Chad’s will give him pointers!

But hey Special Teams…where the hack where you on the punt return for a t.d.? That cannot happen in the “real” season!

Dolphins 10-6 Win After Storm Delay

It was a scary beginning for the Miami Dolphins as they took on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium. I’d have to say “Thank God for the lightning” because the Dolphins needed to regroup and come up with a better game plan when leaving the field at 0-6. The game was suspended after  1 ½ quarters for 45 minutes and I suppose Sparano must have chewed them out because when the delay of game was over they were back in action, well better action.

Chad Pennington came out and took the Dolphins on a two minute drive to set up Carpenter for a 34 yard field goal before the half. After the half, Pennington came back to throw a 54 yarder to Hartline and then completed the touchdown with a 2 yarder to TE Fasano; I’m glad we gave up our fourth round to Dallas for him!

Well we have seen the Dolphins making some pretty interesting errors and some good plays. I will not say they look perfect, but we sure have come a long way in two seasons! We have a long season ahead of us and many are anxious to see some great wins!

Lets keep up the good work and see ya’ on the 3rd at 8pm et.

Dolphin improve to 2-0 by defeating the Panthers 27-17

What can I say about this game other than wow. I would have to say everyone did a great job. Our starters made some great plays. So did the other strings. Henne looked very solid on all of his throws and i think he did a great job out there. Another player that really did a great job was Lex Hilliard. We already have three very good running backs. Have we found a forth? In the absence of Smith and Jason Allen the other corners were able to show off what they could do. They did quite well at that task. Vontae Davis had a real good game maybe he read my article and it gave him more to prove(pun completely intended).

I do have to say one negative comment. Its just my nature. Chad Henne through a nice pass to Earnest Wilford. Unfortunately Wilford couldn’t get out of turtle speeds to catch up to it.
